Omar Traut

Omar Laverne Traut, 92 of Washington died Friday, October 10, 2008 at the Washington County Hospital following declining health.

Funeral Services have been set for 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Julie Poulsen officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Forrest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. A general memorial in the name of Omar Laverne Traut has been established.

Mr. Traut was born April 23, 1916 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa the son of Cecil Columbus and Nellie (Holland) Traut. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1935 and served in the Navy during WW II. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Sloan Lucas July 9, 1935 in Mt. Pleasant, they later divorced, he then married Stella Blanch Utt (Bullock) on October of 1966 in Farmington, IA, she preceded him in death April 24, 1997. On September 14, 1999 he married Evelyn Swailes, she preceded him in death on October 4, 2007.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Washington. Omar was in the produce business in Gurnsey, IA for several years before returning to farming northeast of Mount Pleasant. He retired from farming and has resided at Halcyon in Washington for several years.

Survivors include children Thelma Wells and husband Carl of Galesburg, IL, Kenneth Traut and wife Linda of Cedar Rapids, IA, Joan Martin and husband Bill of Marengo, IA, Phyllis Lamb and husband Frank of Marion, IA and Ronald Traut and wife Marjean of North Liberty, IA; one brother Edward Traut of Oskaloosa, IA; seventeen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and twenty-seven great-great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives Blanch and Evelyn, one sister Ruth and three grandsons.
