Norma M Turnipseed, 95, of Washington, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the Parkview Home in Wayland. A memorial celebration of her life will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Washington United Methodist Church with Pastor Anthony DeVaughn officiating. A luncheon will follow where friends are encouraged to share memories and stories with the family. Private family burial will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. A memorial fund has been established for the Washington United Methodist Church and the Washington YMCA Indoor Pool Fund. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Norma May (Payne) Turnipseed was born July 29, 1929, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Kermit and Hazel (Starr) Payne. Growing up her father had a dance band and Norma tap danced for many performances. She graduated from Washington High School. On June 27, 1948, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Turnipseed. Norma owned and operated North End Grocery and later worked at the calendar factory. She was a member of the Washington United Methodist Church, the Fortnightly Club and the Washington Historical Society. Norma enjoyed horses, cooking and baking, especially pies, and family gatherings.
Survivors include her son W. Scott (Christine) Turnipseed of Moline, IL, her daughter Toni (David) Adrian of Washington, four grandchildren: Katie (Chad) Winnie, Sean (Lucie VanHecke) Turnipseed, Jeremy (Kara) Adrian, and Heath Adrian, and five great-grandchildren: Leroy, Lily, Juniper, Griffin and Graham.
Preceding Norma in death were her parents, her husband, her brother Harry Payne, and an infant brother Theodore Payne.
