NANCY A. BURKEY, 69, of Lebanon passed away on Monday April 12, 2010 at her home.
Nancy was born July 7, 1940 in Wayland, Iowa the daughter of Ira and Mildred (Wyse) Wenger. She lived in Wayland, Iowa throughout her childhood where she attended most of her schooling. She graduated from the Iowa Mennonite School in Kalona, Iowa in 1958. After high school, she attended Hesston College and Kansas City General Hospital Nursing School where she received her Registered Nursing Certification. Nancy married Galen Burkey in Wayland, Iowa on June 9, 1962. The couple moved to Albany, OR and then to Lebanon in 1963. Nancy worked as a Registered Nurse at the Lebanon Community Hospital for over forty two years and retired in Feb. of 2010.
Nancy accepted Christ at an early age and was faithful to Him throughout her life. She was a member of the Lebanon Mennonite Church. She enjoyed leading singing and playing the piano and organ for her church family. She also used her musical gifts to minister at Assisted Living Homes in the Lebanon area. She enjoyed reading, writing letters to family and friends, entertaining, traveling and going boating. She loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her husband of forty seven years, Galen of Lebanon; son, Steven Burkey of Lebanon; daughter, Debra Nelson of Lebanon; brother, Wayne Wenger of New Lenox, Illinois; and grandchildren, James and Anna Burkey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Mildred Wenger, a brother, Kenneth Wenger and a sister, Jane Wenger.
Viewing will be held on Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Huston-Jost Funeral Home.
A Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday April 16 at the Lebanon Mennonite Church. Burial will follow in the Fairview Mennonite Cemetery.
