Milo Steele

June 20, 1922 — October 14, 2008

Milo W. Steele, Jr. 86 of Washington died Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at the Washington County Hospital following a short illness.

Funeral Services have been set for 1:30 PM Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the Washington United Methodist Church with Pastor Julie Poulsen officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Friday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family receiving friends from 5-8:00 PM. Memorials in the name of Milo W. Steele, Jr. may be designated to the Shrine Children’s Hospital or the Scottish Rite.

Mr. Steele was born June 20, 1922 in Riverside, Iowa the son of Milo W. Sr. and Doris Ione (Wilcox) Steele. He graduated from Washington High School and attended Washington Junior College. He served in the United States Marine Corp During WW II. On June 15, 1945 he was united in marriage to Maxine Marshall in San Diego, CA.

He was a member of the Washington United Methodist Church, KAABA Shriners, Shriner Band, 32nd Degree Mason, Knights Templar, VFW Lifetime member, Marine Corp League, was an adult leader with the Boy Scouts, coached the YMCA and AAU Swim Teams, taught and lead the Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program and played in the Washington City Band. He was a lifelong resident of Washington and owned and operated Steele Oil Products in Washington.

Survivors include sons Mike Steele and wife Jean of Mt. Pleasant and Kim Steele and wife Rosi of Des Moines, IA; brother Robert Steele of Des Moines; sisters Ione Burham and husband Everett of Washington and Joyce Chorpening and husband Charles of Laurie, MO; one grandson Chris Steele.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Maxine January 8, 2005, and sister Audrey.
