Mildred Lucille Hammen, 89 of Washington, died Monday, July 28, 2003 at the McCreedy Home in Washington following declining health.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 31, 2003 at the St. James Catholic Church in Washington with the Rev. Fr. Dennis Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Wednesday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with the family receiving friends from 6-8:00 P.M. A Rosary will be at 4:00 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday evening at the Funeral Home. Memorials in the name of Mildred Lucille Hammen may be designated to St. James Catholic Church or St. James School.
Mrs. Hammen was born May 19, 1914 near Keota, IA the daughter of Albert and Bertha (Blickensderfer) Dunbar. She graduated from Keota High School in 1932 and was united in marriage to Raymond N. Hammen on October 17, 1933 in Keota, IA.
Mildred was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters. She farmed with her husband in the West Chester area and for many years south of Ainsworth.
Survivors include, son Leroy Hammen of Washington, IA and daughter, Joyce Marie and husband Robert of Washington, IA; two sisters, Evelyn McCallister of Washington, IA and Thelma Widdefield of Cathedral City, CA; six grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond in 1998, four brothers and four sisters.
