Melvin R. Arnold, 87 of Carlisle, IA, formally of Washington, died Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the Carlisle Center for Wellness and Rehab.
Graveside services have been set for 1:00 PM Thursday, May 29, 2014 at the Fern Cliff Cemetery, rural Wayland, IA. Memorial may be made to Lending Hands of Washington at 301 Hwy 1 & 92 North, Washington, IA 52353.
Melvin was born on August 29, 1926 in Wichita, Kansas to Ross and Marguerite (Hensley) Arnold. He lived in Wichita, KS and then in Kechi, KS with his aunt and uncle Chet and Neva Baird during many of his younger years. Following high school he joined the Army Air Corps during WWII, and married Barbara Jean Loutzenhiser in September of 1945. Following his military discharge, the couple moved to Kansas City, and then to Des Moines to work for Anderson-Erickson Dairy, and several realty companies in subsequent years.
Survivors include his wife Barbara Jean, children, Stephen Douglas, Daniel, David, and Kathy, siblings Dick, Paul and Wilma, 10 grandchildren, and at this time 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.
