Maynard Goff, Jr, 89, of Washington, died Saturday, March 20, 2021, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington. Per his wishes, his body has been deeded to the University of Iowa Anatomy Department. Graveside services will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in Maynard’s name may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Washington County Hospital Foundation.
Maynard Goff was born March 29, 1931, in rural Crawfordsville, Iowa, the son of Maynard and Reeva Mae (Bain) Goff, Sr. He graduated from Washington High School and joined the United States Marine Corp. In 1952 he was united in marriage to Edith Miller in Oceanside, California. The couple owned and operated Goff Ace Hardware and Gifts on the west side of the square in Washington for 13 years. Edith passed away in 1989 and he married Evelyn (Widmer) Roth. Maynard drove school bus for the Washington Community School District. He was an active member of Faith Baptist Church and enjoyed golf, singing, and engaging with friends and family.
Survivors include two children: Maynard (MJ) Goff III of Prescott, Arizona, Janis (Gary) Mineart of Decorah, Iowa; three grandchildren: Aaron (Wendy) Goff, Daniel Mineart and Emily Mineart; two great grandchildren: Jeremy and Viktoriya Goff and one brother Brad (Pat) Goff of Washington. Also surviving are six stepchildren: Philip Roth, Debra Middleton, Dee Clingman, Penni Jordan, Marti Walker, and Lori Mullikin; a number of step grand and great grandchildren; and special friend Phyllis Ladehoff.
Preceding Maynard in death were his parents, his wife Edith in 1989, wife Evelyn in 2016, son Steve and one brother Blaine Goff.
