Maxine Steele

March 25, 1920 — January 8, 2005

Maxine L. Steele, 84 of Washington, died Saturday evening, January 8, 2005 at the Washington Care Center following declining health.

Services have been set for 1:30 P.M. Thursday, January 13, 2004 at the United Methodist Church in Washington with Pastor Julie Poulsen officiating. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery with Military rites. Visitation will begin at Noon Wednesday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family present from 6-8:00 P.M. A memorial in the name of Maxine L. Steele has been established to Hospice of Washington County.

Maxine was born March 25, 1920 in Canton, SD, the daughter of Charlmer George and Verna Ilo (Nogelmeier) Marshall. She graduated from Brighton High School and Washington Junior College. She served during WWII in the U.S. Marines. On June 15, 1945 she was united in marriage to Milo W. Steele Jr. in San Diego, CA.

Maxine was a member of the United Methodist Church, VFW Auxiliary and the Marine Corp. League. Maxine along with her husband coached swim team and taught many children swimming at the YMCA and though Red Cross at the outdoor pool. Prior to marriage she was secretary/treasurer at Washington County Ag Conservation Association and following marriage was bookkeeper for Steele Oil Products. She enjoyed her family and bowling.

Survivors include her husband Milo Jr. of Washington, two sons, Mike Steele and wife Jean of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Kim Steele and wife Rosi of Des Moines, IA and one grandson Chris Steele.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Burdell R. Marshall.
