Max Hill

Max D. Hill 83 of Washington died Monday, January 5, 2004 at the Washington County Hospital in Washington.

Funeral Services have been set for 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 9, 2004 at the First Lutheran Church in Fairfield with Rev. Hoyt Whitebread officiating. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will begin at Noon Thursday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 in the evening. A memorial in the name of Max Hill has been established to the First Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.

Max was born April 18, 1920 near Trenton, IA the son of John W. and Bertha (Christner) Hill. He attended school at Star School near Trenton. On February 28, 1942 he was united in marriage to Mildred Graf at Kahoka, MO.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Fairfield. Max was in the Army Air Corp during WWII and served in Siapan and Guam. He farmed Northeast of Fairfield after WWII and was employed at the Fairfield COOP as a truck driver and later worked at Acco Louden in Fairfield where he retired from. He moved to Washington in 1988. He enjoyed the Chicago Cubs, antique tractors and horses.

Survivors include his wife Mildred of Washington; three sons, Walter Hill and wife Bonnie of Birmingham, IA, Larry Hill and wife Norma of Fairfield, IA and Keith Hill and wife Diana of Brighton, IA; daughter Donna Greiner and husband Kenneth of Brighton; three brothers, Jacob Hill and wife Cleta of Baldwin Park, CA, Kenneth Hill and wife Mildred of Danville, IA and Stan Hill and wife Tina of Mt. Pleasant, IA; three sisters, Leola Whitney of Placerville, CA, Florence Wesely and husband Merlin of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Melva Sammons and husband Jerry of Mt. Pleasant; ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lester and Carl, sister Mina Crile and great-grandsons Eric Baker and Skylar Brown.
