Mary Eliza Wyse, 87 of Kalona, formally of the Wayland area, died Thursday, December 25, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a short illness.
Funeral Services have been set for 11:00 AM Monday, December 29, 2008 at the Bethel Mennonite Church with Pastor Robert Hartzler officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Mennonite Cemetery. Family visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church on Monday. Beatty Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Mary E. (Wenger) Wyse was born on March 11, 1921 in Washington County, Iowa the daughter of Dave and Katie (Roth) Wenger. She was united in marriage to Vernon J. Wyse on February 6, 1941. Mary was a homemaker and Certified Nurse Aid. She worked as a CNA, helping to feed people who could not feed themselves for many years at the Parkview Home in Wayland, Iowa. She was a charter member of the Bethel Mennonite Church where she served as an adult Sunday School teacher. Mary loved music and scripture and had read the Bible through a number of times. She loved her family and was a loyal, compassionate, non judgmental friend who was steady in her faith and in support of others. Mary volunteered at the Crowded Closet, Parkview Home, the Mt. Pleasant Mental Health Center and the Bethel Church. She enjoyed flowers, quilting, reading and playing scrabble.
Survivors include four children and spouses, Elmer J. and wife Deloris Wyse of Goshen, IN, Kathryn M. Couch of Goshen, IN., Shirley A. and husband Larry Oswald of Kalona, IA., Linda D. and husband Thomas Stump of Goshen, IN, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one sister, Martha and husband Neal Roth of Wayland, IA.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents, husband Vernon, four brothers, Daniel, Orie, Glen, Emery Wenger, and one sister, Elizabeth Sutter.
A memorial fund has been established for the Bethel Mennonite Church and the Pleasantview Home.
