Mary Woods

January 13, 1940 — June 5, 2015

A celebration of life for Mary Sue Woods, 75, of Washington, will be held Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 10:30AM at the the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Colton Clay officiating.  Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 9 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.  A general memorial fund has been established.  Mary Sue Woods died Friday, June 5, 2015 at Halycon House in Washington, where she had lived the past 10 years.

Mary Sue (Ruble) Woods was born January 13, 1940 in Wapello, Iowa, the daughter of James Otto and Minnie (Marie) Ruble.   She graduated from Wapello High School and was united in marriage to Allen Woods.  Mary Sue traveled with her husband for 21 years while he served his country in the military.  During that time they raised five children.  Mary Sue was active in Little Theater and won a Kennedy Center Award for her portrayal of Mary Todd Lincoln while living in Heilbronn, Germany. Mary Sue enjoyed yard sales and loved her collections, including dolls.  She had a great sense of humor and loved people, and everyone loved her.  Mary Sue was a cook at the Washington County Hospital, was a member of the 1st Christian Church and the VFW Ladies Auxilliary.

Survivors include five children: Allen Lee Woods, Jr. of Iowa City, Suzan (Brent) David of Memphis, TN, David Woods of Muscatine, IA, Mary (Mindi) Hesser of Washington, Robert (Karen) Woods of Lake Mills, WI, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one sister, Cathy Ruble of Wapello.

Preceding Mary Sue in death were her parents, her husband Allen, six brothers and sisters and two stillborn grandchildren.
