Mary Wenger, 94 of Wayland, died Friday, November 21, 2003 at the Parkview Home in Wayland following declining health.
Funeral Services have been set for 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 28, 2003 at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church with the Rev. Bob Hartzler officiating. Burial will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 Thursday, November 27, 2003 at the Sugar Creek Church with family receiving friends from 7-8:30 P.M. Memorials in the name of Mary Wenger may be designated to the Parkview Home.
Mary was born February 1, 1909 the daughter of Christian G. and Elizabeth (Rediger) Widmer. She was united in marriage to Raymond Wenger December 31, 1931 in Wayland, IA. Mary graduated from Goshen Academy and received her teacher’s certificate from Iowa Wesleyan College.
Mary was a lifelong member of Sugar Creek Mennonite church where she taught Sunday school for many years and was involved with the Women’s Sewing Circle. She taught school after college and later raised her family and helped with the family farm. Mary enjoyed gardening and opening their home to the children of the fresh air program.
Survivors include three sons, John Wenger and wife Virginia of Wayland, Paul Wenger and wife Katarina of Ann Arbor, MI and James Wenger and wife Faith of Baltimore, MD; three brothers, Reuben Widmer and wife Annabel of Green Valley, AZ, Glen Widmer and wife Helen of Wayland and Daniel Widmer and wife Edna of Albany, OR; sister-in-law Gladys Widmer of Wayland; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Henry and Paul, three sisters, Esther Widmer, Katie Roth and Frida Freyenberger; one grandson Paul Wenger Jr.
