Mary Ann Mellinger, 99, of Wellman, formerly of Riverside and Kalona, died Sunday, January 3, 2021, at Parkview of Wellman. A memorial service will be held at a later date. A memorial fund has been established for Parkview of Wellman. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Mary Ann (Stumpf) Mellinger was born July 13, 1921, in Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Alice (Kos) Stumpf. She attended Holy Trinity Catholic school and was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Riverside VFW Auxiliary, Kalona Golf Course, and the National Order of Forrester’s. In February of 1946 she was united in marriage to Amos Mellinger, III, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Mary Ann helped Amos in the lumber business for many years and also did childcare in her home. Her hobbies included golf, playing cards, and tending to her garden. Mary Ann enjoyed spending time with her family and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include three sons: Matthew Mellinger of New York, Stephen (Janet) Mellinger of Creston, Iowa, Phil (Karla) Mellinger of Hollister, Missouri, six grandchildren: Chad (Beth) Mellinger, Tari Mack, Arika Brindley (fiance' Michael Breedlove), Brent (Kim) Mellinger, Darcy (Billy) Perkins, and Kevin (Andrea) Mellinger, 10 great-grandchildren, five sisters: Lola Hogan, Barb Strickler, Jean Westerbeck, Judy Allen, and Sally Hamilton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Mary Ann in death were her parents, her husband Amos in 1981, and by her siblings Markie, Wilma, Patricia, Helen, Lorraine, Ed, Bob, and Diane.
