Mary Frances Greiner, 71 of Washington, formally of the Keota area died Monday, July 14, 2003 at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella.
A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 17, 2003 at the St. James Catholic Church in Washington with the Rev. Fr. Ed O’Melia officiating. Family visitation will be two hours prior the service at the Church. Beatty Funeral Home of Washington is assisting with the arrangements. A memorial in the name of Mary Frances Greiner has been established to the St. James Catholic Church and Hospice of Washington County.
Mary was born November 16, 1931 in Kinross, Iowa the daughter of John Calvin and Margaret (Nolan) Gage. She grew up in the Kinross area and graduated from Kinross Consolidated School, where she was active in music and basketball. On October 7, 1950 she was united in marriage to Norbert V. Greiner at the Sacred Heart Church in Kinross.
Mary attended DMACC and received her Nursing Home Administration License. She worked as a Certified Medical Assistant for 11 years and worked in the field until 1994, when she retired from the Sigourney Care Center. She made her home in the Keota community until moving to Washington in Nov. 2000
She was a member of the St. James Catholic Church and was active in Alter and Rosary and numerous church activities, which she enjoyed. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and past member of the Rebekah Lodge.
Survivors include, two sons, Norbert Jr. and wife Nancy of Knoxville, IA and Dr. Douglas Greiner of Springfield, MO; two sisters, Maxine Mather and husband Joe of Keswick, IA and Mickey Miller and husband Robert of Riverdale, UT; four grandchildren, Samantha Greiner, Erin, Brian and Molly Murphy, great-granddaughter Grace, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband on Dec. 5, 1999 and sister Geraldine Miller.
