Funeral services for Mary Ellen Gingerich, 89, of Kalona will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 9:30 AM at the Charles Miller home; 2412 540th SW street, Kalona with Perry Yoder officiating. Burial will follow at the North Gingerich Cemetery in rural Kalona. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 5 from 2 PM until 8PM and Friday June 6 all day at the Charles Miller Home.
Mary Ellen Gingerich was born on July 4, 1924 in Kalona, Iowa the daughter of Benedict and Lizzie (Kemp) Gingerich. She was baptized in her youth and remained a faithful member of the church until her death. She passed away on June 4, 2014 of congestive heart failure, at the age of 89 years and 11 months. Mary Ellen lived in the family home for 88 years, until moving in with her great niece and family nine weeks ago. She whe was a faithful Budget scribe for 60 years and wrote her last letter on Monday, June 2nd.
Survivors include one sister; Amanda Beachy of Riverside, IA, two nephews: Samuel F. Gingerich of Croften, KY, Ben Ray Gingerich of Kalona, IA, nine neices: Elizabeth (Marvin) Yoder of Croften, KY, Katie (Solomon) Yoder, Elizabeth (Willie) Schrock and Verba (Ephraim) Miller all of Kalona, IA, Emma (John Henry) Beachy of Riverside, IA, Barbara Ann Gingerich and Alta (Steven) Miller of Kalona, IA, Ida Mae (James) Bige of Waterloo, IA, Katie Mae (Jerry) Gingerich of Komoko, IN, her care givers; Charles and Ellen Miller of Kalona, and many great neices and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Freeman, Herman and Emil Gingerich, an infant sister, one nephew; Emery Gingerich and one neice; Mary Jane Miller.
