Mary Lou (Kiefer) Frank, 95, of Iowa City, passed from this life Tuesday, May 7, 2024. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Website, Facebook and YouTube pages. The family will greet friends one hour before the mass. Burial will follow mass at the Saint Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the St. Wenceslaus Church and Iowa City Hospice. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Mary Lou Frank was born August 21, 1928, in Riverside, Iowa, the daughter of Anton and Irene (Muller) Kiefer. She graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Riverside in 1946. On October 23, 1948, she was united in marriage to Paul Frank at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond. Mary worked in the Johnson County Treasurer’s office for many years. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, including her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her beloved husband of 69 years, Paul. She and Paul enjoyed many outdoor activities together.
Survivors include four children: Linda (Don) Shalla of Riverside, Thomas (Christy) Frank of McFarland, WI, Sally Frank of Iowa City, Deb (Bill) Brandt of Iowa City; nine grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and her sister Nita Latta of Riverside.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents, her husband Paul, her great-granddaughter Kiefer Grout, grandson John Thomae, grandson-in-law Jamie Jarrett, her brother Anton “Ginger” Kiefer, and her sister Betty Soukup.
The family wishes to thank Iowa City Hospice, Neddie Stanley, and Midora Slaughter for their compassionate care.
