A memorial service for Mary Dayton, 74 of Kalona will be held Sunday, September 22, 2013 at 5:00 PM at the Shiloh Church in rural Kalona.  Visitation will be held Saturday, September 21 from 1 – 4 and 5-7 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona.  The body will be cremated after visitation.  A general memorial fund has been established.  Mary E. Dayton died Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the Universityof Iowa Hospital in Iowa City following a sudden illness.

Mary Elizabeth (Nisly) Dayton was born October 15, 1938 in Kalona, Iowa the daughter of Fred and Katie (Miller) Nisly.  She went to nursing school in Virginia and was a licensed practical nurse.  Mary was united in marriage to Dave Dayton on April 15, 1971 at the Christian Tabernacle in Washington, Iowa.   Mary worked as a LPN at the University of Iowa, the Veteran's Administration, Pleasantview Home for 23 years, Parkview Manor, and she retired from System's Unlimited in Washington. She was a member of the Shiloh Church and the Quilter's Club in Wellman.  She enjoyed gardening, quilting, tending her fruit trees, animals and baking.  Her grandchildren were the light of her life.

Survivors include her husband Dave of Kalona, a step daughter: Michelle (Chris) Mingo of Bloomington, MN, a step son: Mark (Cindi) Dayton of Astoria, NY, two sons: John (Shawna) Dayton of Conroy, IA, Lonnie Dayton of North Liberty, IA, eight grandchildren: Katie and Kassie Iverson, Paige Dayton, Gable, Alexis, and Gabriella Dayton, and Joshua and Elijah Dayton, seven siblings: Dan (Alma) Nisly of Kalona, Jessie (Carol) Nisly of Clarksdale, AZ, Esther (Joe) Borntreger of El Paso, TX, Orpha (Willis) Miller of Kalona, IA, David (Jill) Nisly of Kalona, IA, Ruth Statler of Washington, IA and Paul Nisly of Wellman, IA, and one sister in law: Mamie Nisly of Kalona, IA.

Preceding Mary in death were her parents, an infant brother, a brother Reuben Nisly and a brother in law George Statler.
