Mary Bower

Mary M. (Misel) Bower died Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the Serenity House Hospice in Oskaloosa.

Funeral services have been set for Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 10:30AM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. Burial will follow in the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin Tuesday, December 7 at noon at the Beatty Funeral Home where family will greet friends from 6 – 7:30 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Assembly of God Churches in Oskaloosa or Washington and Serenity House Hospice in Oskaloosa.

Mary Maxine (Misel) Bower was born March 5, 1919 in Presho, South Dakota the daughter of David and Bertha (Ripley) Misel. She graduated from Washington High School in 1936 and was united in marriage to Dale D. Bower on June 5, 1941 at the Four Square Church in Washington. Mary was an active member of the Assembly of God Church in Washington and Oskaloosa. As well as being a homemaker for many years, Mary was employed and retired from McCleery Cumming Calendar Factory in Washington, IA. She loved to bake at Christmas time.
Survivors include three sons and their wives: Duane and Melanie Bower of Des Moines, Robert and Sharon Bower of Oskaloosa and Terry and Mary Bower of Dover, Delaware; foster-daughter Lora Mathis of Ft. Worth, TX; five grandchildren, Kathy Holden, Dan Bower, Julia Hansen, David Boer, Angelique Bower, five great-grandchildren, Cory Holden, Caitlin Holden, Mariah Bower, Cooper Bower, Sophie Bower, and two great-great-grandchildren, Brytan Holden and Zalen Holden.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents, husband Dale on October 17, 2010, one brother, Elwood Misel and two sisters, Jessie Teets and Luetta “Lou” Roe.
