Mary Bean, 53 of Wayland, died unexpectedly Friday, November 12, 2004, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City with her husband and family at her side.
A Celebration of Mary’s life will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at the Wayland Mennonite Church with Pastor Nancy Renfro officiating. Visitation will begin at Noon Monday, November 15, 2004, at the Wayland Mennonite Church with family receiving friends from 5-8:00 P.M. Beatty Funeral Home of Wayland is caring for Mary and her family. The gift of life to others was given through the donation of Mary’s organs and tissue. Following the service her body will be cremated and interred at a later date. Memorials in the name of Mary Bean have been established to the National TTT Camp for Girls, Girl Scouts of America, and the Wayland Youth Center.
Mary was born January 10, 1951, in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Fred and Helen Evans. In 1969 she graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in Des Moines. On June 14, 1975, she was united in marriage to Howard Bean in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was employed by USF&G Insurance in Des Moines for ten years; WACO School Board secretary for twelve years; and the last six years at Farmers and Merchants Telephone in Wayland. She attended Wayland United Methodist Church, was a member of Iowa J TTT in Wayland, past leader for Girl Scouts, and former WACO school board member.
She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her husband Howard of Wayland, son Noah attending Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Jody Bean of Ames, Iowa, and Amy Bean attending college at Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Fred Jr, sisters Gloria, Marcella, and Clara.
