Martha Stoddard, age 92, died Monday, February 7, 2011 at Pleasantview Home, Kalona.
Funeral services will be Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 10:30 am at the Salem Mennonite Fellowship Church, 1306 Keokuk Washington Rd., Keota, IA 52248. Burial will be in the Salem Church Cemetery,
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 9 at the Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona from 2-8 PM. The family will be present from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A general memorial fund has been established.
Martha Bender Stoddard was born November 18, 1918 in Exeland Wisconsin, the daughter of Harvey and Anna (Miller) Bender. She completed her education to become a registered nurse in New Port News, VA.
Martha was a missionary nurse in Nigeria for a number of years and also served at the Pleasantview Home as a nurse for 10 years.
Martha was married to Glen W. Stoddard on March 26, 1976 at the Salem Mennonite Fellowship Church.
She was a member of the Salem Mennonite Fellowship Church. Beside her devotion to her profession she enjoyed gardening and was known to have a green thumb.
Surviving Martha are her stepson, Joe Stoddard of Wellman and stepdaughter Ruth (James) Blayer of Iowa City, a sister, Elva Bender of Kalona and a brother and sister-in-law, John and Elizabeth Bender of Kalona. Also surviving are step grandchildren, Jonathan Blayer, Christopher Blayer, Matthew Blayer, Stephen Blayer, Nicholas Stoddard and Nathan Stoddard.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Glen Stoddard, one brother David Bender and two sisters, Mary Yoder and Lydia Swantz.
