Marjorie Gingerich

Funeral services for Marjorie J. Gingerich, 86, of Wellman will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 2:30 PM at the East Union Mennonite Church with Pastors Sonya Stauffer Kurtz, Nathan Ramer and Ron Bontrager officiating.  Burial will follow at the East Union Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Friday, June 6, 2014 from 4 – 7 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona.  A memorial fund has been established for East Union Mennonite Church and the Parkview Chaplancy.  Marjorie Gingerich died Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Parkview Manor in Wellman.

Marjorie Jean Rhodes was born in Johnson County, rural Kalona, Iowa on September 6, 1927.  She was the daughter of Frank and Lavanda (Preston) Rhodes.  She attended rural Lincoln school and graduated from Kalona High School in 1945 after which she attended State Teacher's College.  Marjorie was baptized at East Union Mennonite Church where she was a lifelong member.  On September 17, 1950 she was united in marriage to Clarence (Pete) Gingerich and the couple farmed in rural Parnell.  Marjorie enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and spending time with her granddaughers and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her son Ed (Mary Lou) Gingerich of Parnell, Iowa, three granddaughters; Julie (Kyle) Birky, Ranee (Justin) Brokaw, Heidi (Caleb) Gingerich Detweiler, six great grandchildren; Isaac, Molly and Hazel Birky, and Luke, Tessa and Hudson Brokaw, one sister: Wanda Miller of Kalona and one brother: John Rhodes of Boise, ID.

Preceding Marjorie in death were her parents, her husband Clarence in 2008, one son: Gary Gingerich in 1981, one granddaughter: Andrea Gingerich, one brother: Robert Rhodes and her twin sister: Margaret Bontrager.
