He attended school in Washington and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1948 where he served through 1952. Jake and Hazel Ayers Simmering were married in Iowa City on May 29, 1953. Jake was employed at ALCOA in Davenport for many years and then was employed at Russelroy Foundry in Durant. He retired from that company in 1983. Jake had many interests that included old tractors, gardening, hunting, fishing and trapping. His favorite recreation in recent years was attending auctions where he added to his collections. Jake is survived by his children; Tammy and husband Robert Leidel of Wilton, Terry Raymond of Davenport and Charlie and wife Luann Simmering of Wilton. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; Janet, Wendy, Brandy, Amanda, Charles Jr., Emily, Tara, Jessie Lyn and Jana., five great grandchildren; Matthew, Landon, Shana, Dakota and Dylon, four sisters, Mildred and husband Bob Peters of Florence, OR., Shirley Buckley of Huntington Beach, CA, Lorena and husband Kurt Neufeld of Mission Viejo, CA, and Judy and husband Chuck Hedger of Moreno Valley, CA. Preceding Jake in death were his wife, Hazel, Dec. 7, 2006, his parents, two sons, Marvin Raymond and Mike Simmering, a sister Marlene Dochterman and triplet infant brothers. A general memorial fund has been established. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation for the many acts of kindness shown them during their loss.
