Funeral services for Marie Neff Widmer, 91 of Halcyon House will be held Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 2:00PM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Linda Foor officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service from noon to 2PM on Tuesday. Marie Widmer died Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Halcyon House in Washington following a lingering illness. A memorial fund has been established for hospice.
Marie Edna Neff Widmer was born June 7, 1918 in Wayland, Iowa the daughter of Jesse C. and Ida Maud (Bain) Neff. She graduated from Wayland High School in 1935 and attended Burlington Beauty Academy. She married Dale Goff on June 9, 1935 and later married Paul J. Widmer on October 7, 1961. While living in Washington in the earlier years she was active in PTA, played the piano and was secretary of the Sunday school at the First Presbyterian Church. One year she served as benevolence treasurer of the church. Marie was Local Chief Operator at the Iowa Continental Telephone Company for over five years. Later she worked as Deputy County Recorder under County Recorder Lena Stewart. She worked at the ASC office for over five years, for attorney Kehoe for over a year and was a teller at the Washington State Bank.
While Marie lived in Tuscan, Arizona she was a member of the Catalina Methodist Church, played the piano for Home Builders Sunday school, was president of the Altrusa Club in 1979 and 1980 and was a member of the Daughters of The Nile.
Survivors include one daughter, Beverly Rhoades of Washington, Iowa, one granddaughter, Ida Marie and husband Brian Foster of Mechanicsville, Virginia and two great grandsons, Brent and Ethan Foster.
Preceding Marie in death were her parents and five sisters, Nellie Palm, Kitty Hanze, Violet Neff, Vivienne Brinton and Virginia Wolfe.
