Marie M. Marie, 95 of Washington, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the Washington Care Center following declining health.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, May 17, 2008 at the St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Rev. Fr. Ed O’ Melia officiating. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin 9:00 A.M. Friday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family receiving friends from 5-7:00 in the evening. A rosary will be at 4:30 P.M. and a vigil service will be 7:00 P.M. Friday evening at the Funeral Home. Memorials in the name of Marie Marie may be designated to the St. James School Scholarship Fund.
Marie was born January 25, 1913 the daughter of Jacob and Paulena (Heuberger) Schmitt at Harper, Iowa. She graduated from St. Elizabeth’s High School and attended Ottumwa Heights Junior College. In 1936 she was united in marriage to Leonard J. Marie at St. Elizabeth Church in Harper.
Marie was a member of St. James Catholic Church for over fifty years and member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She taught school at Davenport, Washington and Hard Scrable Country School, worked at Montgomery Wards and the Credit Bureau of Washington. Marie played the organ for many years at St. James and she enjoyed reading and crocheting.
Survivors include son Richard Marie and wife Leona of Moline, Il; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons David and Jerome, sisters Anne Wolf and Eleanor “Babe’ Marie and granddaughter Elizabeth Marie.
