Marie Emma English, 82 Mt. Pleasant, formally of the Trenton area, died Monday, October 13, 2003 at the Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral Services have been set for 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 17, 2003 at the Trenton Methodist Church with Rev. Jeffrey McPheron officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will begin at Noon Thursday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 in the evening. Memorials in the name Marie English have been established to the Trenton Methodist Church.
Marie was born October 26, 1921 in Germany the daughter of Fredrick and Elizabeth (Meyer) Horstmann. She was united in marriage to Alfred Lyle English February 6, 1940 in Big Rock, Iowa.
She was a long time respondent of Trenton and a faithful member of the Trenton Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, VFW auxiliary, BPW and the American Legion. She came with her family from Germany when she was two years old to the U.S. Marie was employed with the Mental Health Institute in Mt. Pleasant for 32 years as a nurse’s aid. She enjoyed bowling and her family.
Survivors include, three sons, Ronald English of Missouri, Lyle English and wife Linda of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Wayne English and wife Shelly of Louisville, KY; four daughters, Mary Alter and husband Ivan of Trenton, IA, Joyce Bachman and husband Bill of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Irene Bachman and husband Doyle of Wayland, IA and LaVaughn Hernke and husband Jim of Cannon Falls, MN; three brothers, Fred Horstmann and wife Melba of Bennett, IA, Frank Horstman and wife Marjorie of Ft. Wayne, IN and Ed Horstmann and wife Betty of Tipton, IA; one sister, Dorothy Burkhardt aand husband Dale of Bettendorf, IA; sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alfred in 1960 and two sisters, Emma Edwoldt and Barbara Meyer.
