Marie Barton, 100 of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, January 17, 2004 at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral Services have been set for 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 23, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Dave Plooster and Rev. Ron Vander Hart officiating. Burial will be in the Lambirth Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Thursday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Memorials in the name of Marie Barton have been established to the Lambirth Cemetery or the Iowa chapter of Muscular Dystrophy.
Mrs. Barton was born on September 20, 1903 in Jefferson Co. Iowa the daughter of Fred C. and Melinda Bell (Litton) McElwee. On September 20, 1922 she was united in marriage to J F Barton in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Frank Weston. They farmed in the Round Prairie vicinity until J’s death on July 7, 1982. Marie enjoyed her flowers, gardening, music and all her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Elloise and her husband Richard Moyle and Wanda Wesely, both of Mt. Pleasant; son Wesley Barton and wife Gerry of Mt. Pleasant; fourteen grandchildren, Lori and John Schlatter, Linda Moyle, Bob and Denise, Bill and Karen, Brad and Monica Wesely, Brian Wesely, Becky Wesely, Jim and Diana, Mike and Lyndel Barton, Kathy and Mike McAlister, Rick and Kelly, Phil and Karen Barton, Pete Barton, Melinda and Jeff Sitar; Twenty-one great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Wilma Barton and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law Joe Wesely, two brothers Everett McElwee and Thomas McElwee, sister Mildred Charbonneau, an infant grandson, great-grandson, eight nephews and two nieces.
