Marguerite Hazel Dare, 86 of Wayland, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at the Washington County Hospital following declining health.
Funeral Services have been set for 10:30 AM Saturday, March 17, 2007 at the Bethel Mennonite Church with Pastor Phil Slabaugh officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Saturday at the Church with family receiving friends until the time of the service. Memorials in the name of Marguerite Dare may be designated to the Parkview Home. Beatty Funeral Home of Wayland is assisting with arrangements.
Marguerite was born November 19, 1920 in Washington Co., Iowa the daughter of Chris E. and Emma (Reschly) Roth. She graduated from Wayland High School and the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls in 1954. She was united in marriage to John Dare March 12, 1960 in Sacramento, CA.
She was a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church, teaching Sunday and Bible School in earlier years. Marguerite taught elementary school in rural Jefferson and Henry Co., Wyman, Burlington and Muscatine. She later moved to California where she taught severely handicapped children and also did secretarial work. She enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, photography and photo developing.
Survivors include stepchildren, John Jacobsen of Sioux City, IA, Kathy Anderson and husband Allen of Burle, TX and Virginia Ross and husband John of Oregon; sister Ethel Widmer of Wayland; eleven step-grandchildren and two step great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Mabel Conrad and Edith Roth.
