A funeral service for Mabel V. Gingerich, 102, of Kalona will be held Monday, June 13, 2016 at 10:30 am at the Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church with Pastor Floyd Helmuth officiating. Burial will follow at the East Union Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 12 from 3 – 5 and 6 – 8 pm at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Sunnyside Church and Pleasantveiw Home. Mabel Gingerich died Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
Mabel Vanora Gingerich was born March 29, 1914 in rural Johnson County, the daughter of Jephthah and Ida (Yoder) Gingerich. Mabel was baptized on October 6, 1929 at Upper Deer Creek Mennonite Church. She attended rural school at Lincoln #6 and was a charter member of the Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church. Mabel worked at Mercy Hospital in housekeeping for a number of years and later at the La Junta Mennonite School of Nursing in La Junta, Colorado. After returning to Iowa she worked as a receptionist and assistant for Dr. Spector for 22 years. She enjoyed traveling, singing, sewing and quilting.
Survivors include her sister Elsie Gingerich of Kalona, three nephews: Ken (Leona) Gingerich of New Mexico, Larry (Fran) Gingerich of Indiana, Jim (Cindy) Gingerich of Indiana, a number of great nieces and nephews, five cousins: Monroe (Emma Jean) Miller of Kalona, Cora Frey of Newton, KS, Clifford (Mary) Gingerich of Rochester, MN, Alice Hochstedler of Kalona, and Ella June (Eldon) Miller of Rowdy, KY.
Preceding Mabel in death were two sisters: Mary Miller and Arvilla Waidelich, one brother Chester Gingerich and two brothers-in-law, Omar Miller and Marvin Waidelich.
