Lynn Merck

A Celebration of Life for Lynn E. Merck, 69, of Kalona, will be held Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Kalona United Methodist Church with Pastor Gerry Kahler officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at Sharon Hill Cemetery, Kalona. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 14 from 2 – 7 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice, Kalona United Methodist Church and Pleasantview Home. Lynn Merck died Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Pleasantview Home in Kalona

Lynn Eugene Merck was born June 13, 1949 in Sigourney, Iowa, the son of Eugene and Ellen (Rank) Merck. He graduated from Montezuma High School and Iowa State University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Education. Lynn served in the Iowa Army National Guard from 1971 - 1978. On November 30, 1985 he was united in marriage to Donna Yoder at the Kalona United Methodist Church. Lynn worked at Moorman Feed as a sales rep. and for Cenex Land O'Lakes as plant manager. In the mid 1990's he began farming and continued until illness no longer permitted. Lynn was a faithful member of the Kalona United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and served on several committees. He was also a past President and Lieutenant Governor of the Kalona Optimist Club. He enjoyed being at the farm, hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Donna of Kalona, three children: Jeannie (Christian) Zulauf of Ottumwa, Michelle Merck of Des Moines, Ryan (Kate) Merck of Wellman, his grandson Trevin, his mother Ellen Merck of Grinnell, two sisters: Becky Schlesselman of Grinnell, Jo (Steve) Wiley of New Sharon, a foster brother Dwaine Gooding of Burlington, two brothers-in-law: Marlin (Judy) Yoder of McLeansville, NC, Harlan (Mary) Yoder of North Liberty and one sister-in-law Deanna (Carl) Poe of Kalona, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding Lynn in death was his father Eugene and one brother-in-law David Schlesselman.
