Funeral Services for Lyle D. Zear, 91, of Washington will be held Monday, October 22, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Faith Baptist Church in Washington, with Pastor Jon Rees officiating. Burial will follow at the Cottonwood Cemetery in Wayland. A visitation will be held Sunday, October 21, from noon – 5 PM at the Beatty Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 2 - 5 PM. A memorial fund has been established for The Faith Baptist Church and Hospice of Washington County. Lyle Zear died Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at his home in Washington.
Lyle Dean Zear was born March 4, 1927 in Wayland, Iowa, the son of William Charles and Nina (Bain) Zear. He was united in marriage on September 9, 1950 to Edith LaVon Rich, in Fredricksburg, Iowa. Lyle served his country in the United States Army as a medic. He worked at Iowa Southern Utilities (Alliant) for 33 years, and after retirement worked in the shop at ZLC Mowers. Lyle was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Washington where he sang with the Old Geezers singing group. He was an Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed playing pool at the YMCA and playing free cell on the computer.
Survivors include his children Jacque Trude Helena, MT, Tim Zear of Washington, Jeff Zear (Nancy) of Iowa City, Shelley Hayes of Washington and Chad Zear (Michelle) of Washington; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Lyle in death were his parents, wife LaVon on July 21, 2010, sisters Vivian Neff and Freda Nicola, son-in-law Lloyd Hayes, and grandsons Adam Lloyd Hayes and Ethan Chaim Trude.
