A graveside service for Lyle D. Johnston, 87, of Washington will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Elm Grove Cemetery with Pastor Maureen Howard officiating. A general memorial fund has been established. Lyle Johnston died Monday, June 22, 2015 at All American Care Center in Washington.
Lyle Dean Johnston was born November 6, 1927 in Burlington, Iowa the son of Roy M. And Mildred (Rodgers) Johnston. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II in the South Pacific. Lyle worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown for 10 years and farmed by Stockport for 14 years. He was a member of the VFW and the Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters: Becky Garland of Farmer's City, IL, and Rosanne (Allen) Avery of Burlington, IA, two grandchildren and one sister, Lealta McGregor.
Preceding Lyle in death were his parents, a son, Dennis Johnston, a daughter, Julia Johnston, a son in law, Vearl Garland, two brothers: Cleo and Don Johnston and three sisters: Rita Gillis, Arlene Mumme and Evelyn Morrison.
