Funeral services for Lydia M. Yoder 80, of Kalona will be held Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 9AM at the Leonard Yoder Home in the 1200 block of Larch Avenue West of Kalona. Burial will follow at the Peter Miller Cemetery in rural Kalona. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 11 from 6-8PM and Wednesday all day at the Leonard Yoder home. Lydia died Monday, January 10, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospital following a massive stroke.
Lydia May Yoder was born May 9, 1930 in rural Kalona the daughter of Noah M. and Magdalena (Hochstedler) Yoder. She was baptized in the Old Order Amish Church in her youth and was a faithful member until her death. Lydia attended Snake Hollow rural school, and had lived in Kalona for the past 26 years. She was a homemaker and quilter.
Survivors include three sisters and two brothers, Erma (Joe, Jr.) Miller of Kalona, Annie Ropp of Kalona, Mary Ellen (Edward) Slabaugh of Weyers Cave, VA, Harvey (Ruby Ann) Yoder of Kalona, John Henry (Clara) Yoder of Williamina, OR, 25 nieces and nephews, 113 great nieces and nephews, and six great great nieces and nephews. Preceding Lydia in death were her parents, Magdalena in 1963, Noah in 1981, one brother Menno M. Yoder in 1973, a brother in law, Chester Ropp in 1970 and a stillborn great great niece.
