Luther Brown,

February 10, 1935 — July 28, 2008

Luther Edward Brown, Jr. 73 of rural Wayland, died Monday, July 28, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a lengthy illness.

Funeral Services have been set for 10:00 AM Friday, August 1, 2008 at the Eicher Mennonite Church with Pastor Herb Yoder officiating. Following the service his body will be cremated and interred at the Eicher Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will begin at Noon Thursday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family receiving friends from 4-7:00 in the evening. Memorials in the name of Luther Edward Brown, Jr. have been established to the Eicher Mennonite Church.

Luther was born February 10, 1935 in Williamstown, MO the son of Luther E. and Mildred M. (Speer) Brown, Sr. He graduated from Williamstown High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He was united in marriage to Shirley Morris December 15, 1955 in Kahoka, MO.

He was a faithful member of the Eicher Mennonite Church where he served as Trustee and was also a member of the American Legion, NRA, Boy Scout leader and baseball coach. He was employed as a meat inspector for the USDA for thirty-three years. Luther enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and was an avid Cardinals baseball fan.

Survivors include his wife Shirley of Wayland, sons Curtis Brown and wife Carla of Durant, IA, Steven Brown and Barton Brown, both of Wayland; sister Sandra Nichols and husband Ralph of Williamstown, MO; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents two brothers Weldon and Richard and grandson Benjamin Brown.
