Lucy Hesseltine, 91, of Parkview Home, Wayland, died Sunday, December 20, 2009 at the Parkview Home in Wayland. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 10:00AM at the Cottonwood United Methodist Church in rural Wayland, with Pastor Linda Renken. Burial will follow at the Cottonwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland on Tuesday evening from 6-8PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Cottonwood United Methodist Church, Hospice and Parkview Home.
Lucy Hesseltine was born November 9, 1918 in Lone Tree, Iowa, the daughter of Harry L. and Sarah L. Gallaugher Fountain. She was united in marriage to Victor J. Hesseltine on March 12, 1938 in Iowa City. She was a member of the Cottonwood United Methodist Church, the Ladies Aid Society and the American Legion Auxiliary. Lucy was a loving wife and mother and in her earlier years loved to garden, sew, bake and create quilts.
Survivors include one son, Tom Hesseltine of Wayland, three daughters, Jerry and husband Bruce Sanchez of Rockport, TX, Peggy Cassens of Sigourney, IA, Sarah Piper of Washington, one son-in-law, Jim and wife Donna Hooley of Washington, three sisters, Elsie Morgan of West Liberty, IA, June Allison of Clarence, IA, Marjorie Reese of Coralville, IA, one sister-in-law, Catherine Fountain of North Liberty, IA, 14 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren.
Preceding Lucy in death were her husband in 1993, one daughter, Mary Hooley, two sons, Joe and Harry Hesseltine, two sons-in-law, Lee Cassens and Larry Piper, four brothers, Larry and James Fountain and two in infancy and two sisters, Rosa Poland and Violet Frauenholz.
