Lois A. Graber, 97, of Wayland, died Thursday, October 2, 2014 at the Parkview Home in Wayland.
Funeral services have been set for Thursday, October 9 at 11:00 AM at the Wayland Mennonite Church with Pastor Kelly Slagel officiating. Burial will follow at the Eicher Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 8 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland from 1 – 7PM with the family present from 5 – 7 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Parkview Home and the Wayland Mennonite Church.
Lois Ardell (Blattspieler) Graber was born June 21, 1917 in Clear Lake, IA, the daughter of Louis and Amelia (Halstad) Blattspieler. She graduated from Manly High School in 1935 and from Iowa State Teacher's College in 1937. Lois taught 1st and 2nd grade in Crystal Lake and one year at Buffalo Center. It was there that she met Wilbert John Graber, and they were wed on June 9, 1940 in Manly. After moving to Wayland, Lois taught 2nd grade at WACO and was a member of the Wayland Mennonite Church and the Progress Club. Lois also enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Bible School.
Survivors include a son John Daniel Graber and wife Lynne of Mercer Island, WA , a daughter Marilyn Jean Graber of Wayland, IA, two grandchildren: Tom and wife Elena Graber and Nick and wife Hillary Graber, and two great-grandchildren: Ludovico and Cosimo Graber.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wilbert in 1979, brother Robert and sister Virginia Bublitz.
