A Mass of Christian Burial for Lloyd A. Duwa, 88, of Washington will be held Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond, with Father David Brownfield, Father Tom Doyle and Father Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will follow at the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, January 25 from 3 – 7 p.m. at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona where a Rosary and Prayer Vigil will be held at 3:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center (UIHC) and St. Jude Cancer Research. Lloyd A. Duwa died Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospital.
Lloyd Alphonse Duwa was born February 1, 1927 at the Washington County Hospital, the son of A.W. and Anita (Hora) Duwa. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic School and in October of 1945 he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country until June of 1946. On August 28, 1951 he was united in marriage to Roberta (Bertie) Wieland at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. Lloyd farmed and was a mechanic all of his life and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Richmond AMVET Post #107, Riverside VFW Post #6414 and the Eagles Lodge. He loved dancing, bowling, traveling (including many trips to Branson), mushroom and rabbit hunting, attending Passion Plays and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Bertie of Washington, daughter Jane Duwa of Washington, son Robert and wife Terri Duwa of Washington, grandson Phil Duwa and granddaughter Kayla Duwa.
Preceding Lloyd in death were his parents, his son Richard Duwa and his brother Milford Duwa.
