Funeral Services have been set for 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 31, 2004 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Rev. Don Collings officiating. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon till 8:00 P.M. Saturday at the Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 4-6:00 P.M. A Memorial in the name of Lewis Sutton has been established to the Marr Park Conservation Center.
Lewis was born July 30, 1913 in Selma, Iowa the son of Burge and Cecil (Lewis) Sutton. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Elizabeth McCoy, May 29, 1942 in Memphis, MO. He served with the Army from June of 1943 till January of 1944.
He was employed with the railroad prior to marriage and following the war worked at several locker plants including the Washington COOP locker. From 1953 till 1976 along with his wife they owned and operated a locker plant in Lockridge, IA. In 1983 they retired to Washington to be with family. Lewis enjoyed his family, gardening, bird watching, trees and being outdoors.
Survivors include his wife Kathryn of Washington; son Dwight Sutton and wife Nancy of Washington; sister, Viola Taylor of Mount Vernon, IA; two brothers, David Sutton and John Sutton, both of Rochester, NY; two grandsons, Jason Sutton and Jereme Sutton and wife Melody; step-grandsons Sean and J.B. Sanders; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Kasey, Tyler, Taylor, Brandi, Danielle and Trevor.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Wayne, Kenneth and Everett.
Keyboard was played by Alicia Rinner and soloist was Miranda Ball.
Pallbearers were Jason Sutton, Jereme Sutton, Sean Sanders, Lloyal Fulton, Eugene Kurtz and Rich Crull.
Honorary bearers were, Ashley Sutton, Kasey Sutton and Danielle Sutton.
