Leona Grace Thompson, 77 of Salem, died at 8:40 A.M. Saturday, December 11, 2004 in West Point, Iowa.
Funeral Services have been set for 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at the Sharon Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Daniel Hemken officiating. Burial will be in the Sharon Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Monday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with family present from 6-8:00 in the evening. Memorials in the name of Leona may be designated to the Sharon Presbyterian Church or the Sharon Cemetery.
Leona was born December 22, 1926 in rural Mt. Pleasant the daughter of Bernard and Nellie (Scarff) Ericson. She was united in marriage to Richard L. Thompson June 25, 1944 in Salem, IA.
She was a member of the Sharon Presbyterian Church. Leona was employed at Emerson Electric for many years and retired from Gleason Manufacturing in Ft. Madison, IA in 1979. She was also a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, baking, canning, gardening, quilting and being with her family.
Survivors include four daughters, Charlotte Spiekermeier and husband Dave of West Point, IA, Audrey Drollinger and husband Tom of Ft. Madison, Sharon Sander and husband John of Farmington and Janet Fedler of Ft. Madison; two brothers, Edward Ericson of Marshalltown, IA and Ralph Ericson of Lockridge, IA; three sisters, Betty Barr of Mt. Pleasant, Evelyn Wieter of Largo, FL and Donna Luzadder of Fairfield, IA; eight grandchildren, Dean (Andrea) Sartain, Jean (Jim) Tennant, Shawn (Kim) Thompson, Sandra Alvarez, Jennifer (John) Robinson, Kandys (Brad) Dameron, Paula (Jeff) Ellis, and Lori Jo Sander; two step-grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren Alec Sartain, Brianne Sartain, Chance Tennant, Chase Tennant, Dalton Thompson, Cole Thompson, Erica Alvarez, Miguel Alvarez, Gabriel Alvarez, Fernando Alvarez, Alexandra Dameron, Abbigail Dameron, and Josh Ellis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard February 25, 2001, son Dean LaVerne in 1973, two brothers and three sisters.
