Leon Iwanoski, 86 of Wayland, died Sunday, July 31, 2011 at the Parkview Home in Wayland.
Funeral Services have been set for 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Bethel Mennonite Church with Pastor Herb Yoder officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Mennonite Cemetery. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church. Beatty Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. A memorial in the name of Leon Iwanoski has been established to the Bethel Mennonite Church.
Leon was born January 29, 1924 in Belaruis, Russia the son of Waldimer and Luba Iwanov. He was united in marriage to Katharyn Dashkiewich in Altenmorkt, Germany.
Leon and Katharyn moved to Wayland in 1950.
Leon was a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church. He worked for the U.S. Army from 1947-1949 as a guard at a displaced persons camp in Stuttgart, Germany. Following his move to the US he worked for AAA Mechanical Contractors in Iowa City as a mason, carpenter and finish worker for twenty years.
Survivors include sons Wesley Iwanowski of Des Moines, IA and Victor Iwanowski and wife Janet of Muscatine, IA; brother Vasiliy Iwanov of g.Slonim Grodnenskaya obl. Belarus; sisters Olga Krechik of g.Slonim Grodnenskaya obl. Belarus and Zina Krasovskaya of g. Slonim Grodnenskaya obl. Belarus and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Katharyn and grandson Dustin.
