Lee Long, 68 of rural South English, Iowa died Friday, July 15, 2005 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 18, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery Little Creek. Viewing and Visitation will be all day Sunday at the Long residence located at 11848 Hwy 149 South English, Iowa. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M. at his residence. Beatty Funeral Home of Washington is assisting with arrangements. A general memorial in the name of Lee Long has been established.
Mr. Long was born June 22, 1937 in Webster, Iowa the son of Virgil Walter and Maude Marie (Eakins) Long. He graduated from Washington High School in 1956 and was united in marriage to Joan Marie October 24, 1959 at the St. James Catholic church in Washington.
Lee was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the English Valley Saddle Club. He was employed as an automatic electric installer from 1957 till 1962, installing telephone systems around the Midwest and worked for Northwestern Bell in Iowa City from 1962 thru 1971. For eighteen years he was a Standard Oil jobber/agent and retired in 2003 from Diematic Trucking. He enjoyed family, grandchildren and horses.
Survivors include his wife Joan of South English, children, Jim Long and wife Mary of South English, Deb Conrad and husband Jim of South English, Kathy Davis and husband Larry of Keota, Ed Long and wife Sally of South English, Mary Lea Glaspie and husband Karl of North English and Nancy Morrison and husband Dick of South English; brother Max Long and wife Janis of Washington; twenty-five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jerry and grandson Steven Long.
