Lawrence Techau

Lawrence Techau, 88 of Washington died Sunday, August 17, 2008 at the Washington Care Center following a short illness.


Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 10AM at the Beatty Funeral Home, Washington, with Pastor Linda Foor officiating. Burial will be at the Tipton Masonic Cemetery in Tipton at 2PM. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 19 starting at noon until 8PM, with family present from 6-8PM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa.


Lawrence J. Techau was born on August 18, 1919 in Cedar County, Iowa the son of John and Anna (Nagel) Techau. He was united in marriage to Marian Thien on September 14, 1958 in Tipton. After Marian’s death in 1996 Lawrence married Doris Mattson in New Hampton, Iowa on December 6, 1999.


Lawrence farmed in the Tipton area until 1963 and worked for a farmer in the Amana Colonies for a bout a year, then moving to Manchester, Iowa in 1965. Lawrence and Marian operated the Lone Pine Nursing Home until 1976. He was also a school bus driver and custodian for West Delaware Schools in Manchester. He moved to New Hampton, Iowa in 1999 and later to Washington in 2003. Lawrence was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Manchester. He loved going to Lending Hands Adult Day Care, playing cards and being with friends.


Survivors include two children and spouses, Howard and wife Margaret Techau of Washington, Theresa and husband Frank Heims of Manchester, Iowa, four grandchildren, Lucas and wife Virginia Pederson, Nikki and husband Michael Moser, Elissa Heims and Adam Techau, three great grandchildren, Mary Jane Pederson, Hannah Pederson, and Dylan Moser.



Preceding Lawrence in death were his parents, an infant sister Margaret Techau, wife Marian in 1996, wife Doris in 2003.
