Larry L. Statler, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, September 4, 2022, at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Hillside Wesleyan Church in Cedar Rapids with Pastor Tim Purcell officiating. The service will be available via Livestream on the Hillside youtube channel. Private burial for family and close friends will be held at 4:00 PM at Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 9 AM until noon at Hillside Wesleyan Church in Cedar Rapids. A memorial fund has been established for Hillside Wesleyan Church, 2600 1st Avenue, NW, Cedar Rapids, IA, 52405.
Larry Lee Statler was born June 5, 1938, in Washington County, the son of Donald and Esther (Parcell) Statler. He graduated from Brighton High School and attained his Master’s in Agriculture Education from Iowa State University. On June 6, 1959, he was united in marriage to Janice Edwards at the Methodist Church in Brighton. Larry was an ag teacher in Waverly before becoming the Dean of Agriculture at Kirkwood Community College. He later owned and operated Safari Iowa Hunting Farms with his wife until 2018. Larry was a faithful and devoted member of the Hillside Wesleyan Church and served in local and district leadership positions in the church. He was active with FFA, passing on his love of all things farming to future generations. He also was an avid hunter.
Survivors include his wife Janice of Cedar Rapids, three children: Kirk (Tonya) Statler of Cedar Rapids, Angie (John) Serbousek of Swisher, and Kent (Julie) Statler of Solon, nine grandchildren: Jordan, Hannah and Abby, Lindsey, Sarah, and Andrew, Jessica, Benjamin, and Joshua, 11 great-grandchildren, and one sister Donna (Jack) Emry of St. Louis, MO.
Preceding Larry in death were his parents and two brothers: George and Ronald Statler.
