Larry Arbogast

Larry Warren “Smoke” Arbogast, 71 of Washington died Thursday, October 19, 2006 at his home in Washington following a short illness.

A Memorial Service will be 1:00 PM Sunday, October 22, 2006 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor James Cluney officiating with military rites to follow. Visitation will be Saturday from Noon till 5:00 at the funeral home with family receiving friends from 2-4:00. His body has been cremated and will be interred at the Sandy Hook Cemetery at a later date. Memorials in the name of Larry Arbogast may be designated to Hospice of Washington County.

Larry was born October 27, 1934 in Coppock, Iowa the son of Lloyd and Lois (Spohn) Arbogast. He attended school in Wayland and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Shirley Arlene Hesseltine in Brighton on May 4, 1957.

He was employed at Washington Manufacturing, Iowa DOT, the VFW in Washington and drove for the Washington Minibus. He enjoyed fishing, frying fish at the VFW and singing.

Survivors include his wife Shirley of Washington, sons, Larry Lee and friend Diane of Washington, Rick and wife Tracy of Washington, Tony Arbogast and wife Tracy of Ankeny, IA; daughter Jacqueline Taylor and husband Sherman of Malin, OR; brothers Max Arbogast of Wayland, Ray Arbogast of Wayland, Robert Arbogast of Washington, Lee Arbogast of Tacoma, WA and Daniel Arbogast of WA; sister Jean Payne of Burlington, IA; seven grandchildren Joshua, Jessica, Gabe, Chad, Erika, Kylan and Aaron and four great-grandchildren Ellee, Jacob Joe an Blane.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Penny; sisters, Wilma Lowry and Karen Swift.
