Services: Friday, April 18, 2008 2:00 PM Kalona United Methodist Church 304 4th St., Kalona Visitation: Thursday, April 17, 2008 2-8 PM Family will be present from 2-4 6-8 Memorial for Kalona United Methodist Church or New Horizons Band Lambert Elmer Neill, Jr, 75, of Kalona passed away at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Lambert E. Neill Jr. was born in Colo, Iowa, the only child of Lambert E. and Wilma Ransom Neill. He graduated in 1950 from Clinton High School and served four years in the United States Navy. Lambert was united in marriage to Doriene Crouse on August 16, 1959 in Clearfield, Iowa. Lambert graduated from Simpson College in 1958 with a Bachelor of Music degree. He taught instrumental music in Iowa Falls, Bayard and Urbandale school districts. He completed his masters degree at Drake University before moving to Kalona in 1966 to teach instrumental music. After retiring from teaching in 1978, Lambert became a salesman for West Music until he retired again in 1994 and assumed the custodial work at the Kalona United Methodist Church. In August he was forced to retire again due to health concerns. Lambert was a kind and gentle man who loved music. Since 1998, he was happiest when playing cornet with his friends in the Senior Citizens New Horizon Band in Iowa City. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the New Horizon Band including the Old Post Office Brass, and the early morning coffee club in Kalona. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Doriene of Kalona; a son Lambert III and wife Meredith of Phoenix, AZ; daughter Laurel and husband Kent Halstead of Coon Rapids, IA; son Thomas; and two grandsons; Taylor and Zachary Halstead of Coon Rapids, IA . He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial in his memory has been established for the Kalona United Methodist Church or the New Horizons Band.
