Kathryn Irene Gerdes, 80 of Washington, died Monday, June 16, 2003 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.
Funeral Services have been set for 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 19, 2003 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Don Ruffenach of the Faith Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin Noon Wednesday at the Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8:00 P.M. A general memorial in the name of Kathryn Irene Gerdes has been established.
Kathryn was born May 28, 1923 near Ainsworth, IA, the daughter of Dewey and Anna (Simmering) Coffman Mc Keown. She graduated from Washington High School and was united in marriage to Raymond Gerdes in Washington on September 17, 195o. He preceded her in death January 3, 1996.
Kathryn attended Faith Baptist Church in Washington. She farmed with her husband south of Ainsworth until retiring to Washington in 1988. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, flowers, baking and cooking.
Survivors include one son Steve Gerdes and wife Kathy of Ainsworth, IA daughter, Sara Swailes and husband David of Columbus Junction, IA two brothers, Max Coffman and wife Beatrice of Bettendorf, IA and John Coffman and wife Bobby of Maquoketa, IA and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Stanley McKeown and her Husband.
