A celebration of life for Katheryn E. Kos, 87 of Kalona will be held Monday, January 21, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the Kalona United Methodist Church with Pastor Gerry Kahler officiating. Burial will follow at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 1-4 and 5-7 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona United Methodist Church, The Grout Church at the Kalona Historical Village and Hospice of Washington County. Katheryn Kos died Thursday, January 17, 2013 at her home following a brief illness.

Katheryn Ella (Southwick) Kos was born September 11, 1925 in Kalona, Iowa the daughter of Leon E. And Maggie Fern (Grout) Southwick. She graduated from Seqouia High School in California. On July 25, 1945 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Kos at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Kalona, Iowa. The couple farmed and lived in the Kalona Community all their lives. Katheryn was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church, Alpha Club of Kalona, the Kalona Historical Village, Bridge Club and the Golden Girls. She enjoyed fishing, sports, playing cards, crafts; knitting, crotcheting, needlepoint, and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include four children and spouses, Gary (Jeanne) Kos of Washington, Iowa, Janet (James) Ferry, Allen (Shirley) Kos, and Kevin (Sue) Kos all of Kalona, 10 grandsons; Aaron Kos, Shane Kos, Jarod Ferry, Anthony Kos, Justin Ferry, Adam Kos, Aric Kos, Braden Kos, Trenton Kos, Abe Kos, 7 granddaughters; Andrea Duwa, Melissa Kos, Averi Kos, Cami Tritsch, Caitlyn Kos, Abby Kos, Greta Kos, 14 great grandchildren, one brother, Donald (Ruth) Southwick of Roswell, New Mexico, thtee sisters in law, Vicki Southwick of Sunnydale, California, Norma Southwick of Kalona, Iowa and Birdie Kos of Iowa City, Iowa

Preceding Katheryn in death were her parents, her husband Kenneth on October 15, 1992, a daughter in law, Faye Kos, five brothers, Dale, Bert, Keith, Leon and Robert Southwick and two sisters, Leora Ressler and Hazel Aleo.
