Karl (Butch) Harris, 65 of Washington, died Thursday evening November 24, 2005 at the Washington County Hospital following a long illness.
No formal funeral services are planned per Butch’s request. An informal gathering and viewing will be from 9:00 A.M. till 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with the family receiving friends from 4-7:00 in the evening. Following the gathering his body will be cremated and private burial will be held at a later date in the Elm Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Hospice of Washington County at 948 E. 11th, Washington, Iowa 52353.
Butch was born November 10, 1940 in Washington, Iowa the son of Art and Catherine (Hesseltine) Harris. On November 19, 1960 he was united in marriage to Betty Magdefrau. They later divorced.
Butch began working at the age of 16 with the Rock Island Railroad. He was employed with the Railroad for 44 years and worked as a Line Foreman out of the railroad depots in Washington, Columbus Junction, Muscatine and Davenport. He retired in 2000.
Butch enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a NASCAR fan.
Survivors include his mother, Catherine Harris of Washington; daughter Debra (Rob) Shearer of Tipton, granddaughter, Samantha Eberle of Tipton, two step grandsons, Brent and Brian Shearer of Joy, IL; three brothers Archie (Twila) Harris of Davenport, Howard (Ellen) Harris of Sperry, IA and Roy (Tina) Dusenberry of Houston, MI; four sisters, Cathy (Greg) Thu of New London, IA, Darlene Stewart of Phoenix, AZ, Wilma (Darrell) Chalupa of Ainsworth, IA and Linda (Richard) Hagens of Brighton, IA.
He was preceded in death by his father, son Steve, grandson Nick, brothers Ed Dusenberry, Sonny Harris and sister Ila Spiker.
