She was a faithful member of Sharon Center United Methodist Church and served in many capacities; as a Sunday School Teacher, Prayer Pal, and One Day Bible School helper.  Karen was church treasurer for 16 and a half years.  She and Phil lived and farmed west of Sharon Center, operating the family farm for over 40 years.  When their youngest son went to Kindergarten, she began working outside of the home.  For 20 years she worked at Yoder Feeds; then Gringer Feed and then farmed alongside Phil for four years.  She then returned to off-farm work at Veterinary Associates in Iowa City as their office manager for more than 11 years.   She enjoyed gardening and tending her yard, reading, knitting, and entertaining her grandchildren in an ornery game of domino’s or other board games.   She also enjoyed preparing Swedish dishes for the Christmas Smorgasbord, keeping family photo albums, studying with book club friends and celebrating with the birthday club.
