Karen Swartzendruber

January 14, 1940 — May 7, 2016

A celebration of life for Karen D. (Roth) Swartzendruber, 76, of Wayland, will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, with Pastor Kelly Slagel officiating.  Burial will follow at the Sugar Creek Cemetery in rural Wayland.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 10 from noon – 7 p.m. at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, where the family will greet friends from 5 – 7 p.m.  A memorial fund has been established for Sonshine Medical Equipment, 211 South Iowa Avenue, Washington, Iowa.  Karen Swartzendruber died Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the Washington County Hospital.

Karen Deanna Swartzendruber was born January 14, 1940 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Gilbert and Bernice (Steckly) Roth.  She attended Wayland School and graduated from Iowa Mennonite School.  She was united in marriage to Don Swartzendruber on October 12, 1958 at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church.  Karen was a homemaker and a member of the Pleasantview Mennonite Church in Mt. Pleasant.  She enjoyed crafting, taking care of her puppy, flower gardening, fishing, and traveling, especially trips to the mountains.

Survivors include two children: Rick Swartzendruber and DeAnne Swartzendruber, both of Wayland, and two brothers: Lynn (Linda) Roth and Rodrick (Kathy) Roth both of Mt. Pleasant.

Preceding Karen in death were her parents, her husband Don and her daughter-in-law, Donna Swartzendruber.
