Julie Niffenegger, 57, of Kalona, died Saturday, December 28, 2019, at her home in Kalona. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 10:30 AM at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond with Father Bernie Weir and Deacon Derick Cranston officiating. Burial will follow at Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 1, 2020, from 2 – 7 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 1:30 PM. A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice.
Julie Niffenegger was born April 14, 1962 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Michael L and Joyce (Altenhofen) Niffenegger. She graduated from Mid- Prairie High School and attended Iowa State University and the University of Iowa. She had many jobs throughout her life, including daycare provider, nursing home aide, delivering food to the homeless, helping her dad grow tomatoes for Heinz, designing floral pieces and managing the family business: Niff’s Nature Nook. Julie was an avid student of the Bible, attending many Bible studies and meeting lifelong friends through church and study groups. Julie enjoyed traveling and had visited many states and countries.
Julie is survived by her mother, Joyce Niffenegger of Kalona, aunts and uncles: Gerald (Maria) Niffenegger, Ward (Kathy) Niffenegger, Bill (Beverly) Niffenegger, Dixie (Steve) Schlabaugh, Jane (John) Schlabaugh, Dennis (Irma) Altenhofen, Ronald Altenhofen, Roger (Mary Ellen) Altenhofen, Les (Barbara) Altenhofen, Doug (Bonnie) Altenhofen, Pat (Naomi) Altenhofen and many cousins and friends.
Julie was preceded in death by her father Mike and her paternal and maternal grandparents.
